Let’s be real: Questions to ask your wedding photographer can feel overwhelming, but getting the answers early can make all the difference.
You scroll, you swipe, you save.. but how do you actually know when someone’s the right fit for your day? The photos might be stunning, but there’s more to it than just the highlight reel.
I’ve been doing this long enough to know the questions couples really want answers to. So here’s a no-fluff guide to what to ask before you lock anything in.
Whether you end up choosing me or someone else, these are the questions that matter.
Not sure what questions to ask your wedding photographer? These are the ones I wish every couple knew to ask.
1. What’s your approach to photographing a wedding day?
Are they hands-off and documentary-style, or more hands-on with posing and direction? You want to understand not just how their photos look, but how it feels to be photographed by them.
I personally work in a relaxed, natural way. I won’t whisk you off for hours or ask you to stage fake moments. I’ll gently guide you when needed, but mostly, I’m capturing what’s actually happening – the laughs, the nerves, the warmth, the bits you didn’t realise you’d want to remember forever.

2. How long will you be there on the day?
Coverage matters. Some photographers offer 6-hour packages, some are with you from prep to party. Ask what’s included and whether you can customise.

I offer full-day coverage as standard because I don’t believe in telling the story halfway. From the quiet getting ready moments to dancefloor chaos – it’s all part of it.
3. Do we need a second shooter?
This depends on your guest list, the flow of your day, and how much coverage you want. If you’re both getting ready at separate locations, or you have a big guest list, a second shooter can be really helpful.
If you’re not sure, ask. I’ll always give you an honest answer based on your plans, not just upsell you something you don’t need.

4. How many photos will we get – and when?
Every photographer is different. Some deliver 300 photos, others 1000. Some deliver in two weeks, others in 12.
I always send a sneak peek within a few days, and you’ll get your full gallery within 6–8 weeks. No waiting around forever. Expect 600+ photos for a full day – all carefully edited and full of feeling.
5. Can we see a full gallery?
Instagram is the highlights. But you want to know what all your photos will look like, from ceremony to speeches to late-night dance moves.
Ask to see a full gallery from a recent wedding. I’m always happy to share real examples so you know exactly what to expect.
6. What happens if you’re ill or there’s an emergency?
Nobody wants to think about this, but it’s important.
I have a solid plan in place and a network of trusted photographers I can call on in a worst-case scenario. You won’t be left hanging.

7. How do we book you?
The vibes are good, the photos feel right.. now what?
Most photographers require a signed contract and a booking fee to secure your date. I keep it simple: fill in this contact form, and I’ll get back to you with everything you need to know.
If it feels like a fit, we get it in the diary.
Final Thoughts
Choosing a photographer isn’t about ticking boxes. It’s about finding someone whose style, values, and presence align with the kind of day you want to have.
So ask the questions. The good ones won’t mind.
And if you’re looking for someone who’ll capture the joy, the chaos, the stillness and the story – without turning your wedding into a photo shoot – I’d love to hear from you.
